Found myself in imperfect loss
The absence of what never was
Some imagined body clock
That ticks in my ears

I ditched the car and I took a walk
To the orchard and I climbed the wall
Sat and watched the apples fall
So far from the tree

I could tie their bruising skin to any part of me
Tender and yellowing, I always bruise so easily

I found myself in the reflection
Of some pitied acceptance
That filled all my prescriptions
For sugar pills

I see the ghosts of alternatives
In all my friends and relatives
Haunted by the negatives
That I left behind

Now I’m trapped in the darkroom that exists behind my eyes
So scared that I’ll ruin the past if I let in the light

I picture a train wreck when I think of a signal change
So scared of the thunder, I don’t get to enjoy the rain

I found myself in imperfect loss
Lost a little of what I was
But learned I was strong enough
For a heavy heart

Jumped the first train that I could find
And watched the sprawling countryside
Like a tape cassette unwind
Right in front of me

A mixtape of summer songs bloomed from it’s harmony
They begged me to sing along and reminded me to breath
Sometimes I still forget
But I’m getting better
Finally
